How Families Use ePACT to Stay Connected

Emergencies are impossible to predict so it’s important for us to be as prepared as possible for any type of emergency, big or small. That way, when one occurs, we’re able to respond and recover from it as effectively and easily as possible. Whether you live in a region prone to natural disasters, like earthquakes or tornadoes, experience severe seasonal weather like snowstorms or flooding, or are simply looking for a way to manage health information, or to deal with those occasions where you’re late to pick up the kids, ePACT is the tool for you!

Not only does ePACT help you store important information in one place, but, once you’ve created your personal support network, you can use it to stay connected with emergency contacts and the organizations that you’re connected to. Overall, ePACT is designed to support your family through any crisis, large or small.

Personal Support Network

how families use ePACT personal support networkCreating a personal support network helps prepare your family for any emergency and gives you peace of mind in the event of a crisis. When you create your ePACT account, you’re prompted to add all the members of your household so you can keep track of their critical information like health details, allergies, dietary requirements, doctor’s records, and more. From here you can connect and share that information with other legal guardians, so they have those details securely at their fingertips when they need it.

You’re also prompted to add emergency contacts, both in- and out-of-area, who can support you in an emergency. Anyone can be an emergency contact, whether parents, siblings, extended family members, friends, or neighbours, and when you add their email address, you invite them to be part of your network, so you can communicate and share information to support your family in an unexpected situation.

Connect to Organizations

You have the option to connect your ePACT record to any organization that your family uses, such as sports associations, parks and recreation departments, schools, camps, and so on. Once you’ve connected your account to an organization, you can choose which emergency contacts to include, so that, in a crisis, that organization can quickly and easily send a message out. Some examples include:

  • If your child is injured at camp, and you aren’t available, camp staff can send a text, email, or voice message to your child’s assigned emergency contact to let them know which hospital they’ve been taken to.
  • If there has been an evacuation at school due to a flood, staff can let you or your alternate guardian know where to pick up your child.
  • If the soccer team’s bus is running late, managers can update you ahead of time so that you or your spouse know when and where to meet the bus once it arrives.

Up-To-Date Information

Family Communication PlanWhether you’re creating your own support network or connecting to the various organizations your family uses throughout the year, ePACT allows you to keep information up-to-date in real time, so that whenever you need it, you can be confident that it’s accurate and know that your family is supported without delay when they need it.

If you’re connected to out-of-town emergency contacts, you can be sure that you always have their current phone number. In the event of a widespread local disaster, you and other family members can all connect easily and quickly to a central person.

If you’re connected to organizations, you can make sure that staff have the latest allergy or dietary information for your kids, you can add new immunization records as they’re updated, or include doctor’s reports for a concussion that your child is recovering from.

Redundant Communications

In addition to ePACT allowing you to collect and store critical information in one place, it allows organizations to communicate with your family across three types of messaging – email, voice, and text. This redundant communication process ensures that the right people get the right information at the right time, no matter what the emergency. This ensures that families always have the support they need, when they need it.

If you’re not yet signed up for ePACT, it’s free for families, so you can get started right away! If you’re already using ePACT and want to recommend us to an organization you’re connected to, you can refer them here.
